UCA BA (Hons) Fashion Design student Meg Hurst has created the most beautiful designs as part of her project! Meg said "For my project, the topic was an ‘iconic garment’. I chose to focus my work on Trench coats and how they have developed through time. The main inspiration behind my final shirt was Tom Baker’s time playing Doctor Who with his trench and iconic knitted scarf. I loved the colour palette and pattern. I incorporated Mary Quant’s 60’s A-line ‘Wet Look’ into the designs which became the main inspiration for my silhouette." She went on to reflect on the challenge of creating the garment at home "Making the shirt in paper was a huge challenge as the paper continually creased and ripped and I knew that if I went wrong I didn’t have enough paper to start over! I ended up having to crease each part of the garment on a big table and then tape them together one at a time on my mannequin… It was horribly dented and creased at the end so I found a bamboo cane in the garden and managed to get the main dents out! It was so challenging but the final outcome was so rewarding!"
