Danika Whitcher @whitcher_danika_art is on of two UCA Ba(Hons) Fine Art @ucafarnhamart students featured in The Holy Art 'GENESIS' virtual exhibition. We spoke to Danika about the inspiration behind her work, and she said "In my work, I’ve found an interest in the power of the female model and the commodity, and I hope to reflect on the current relationship it has with the consumerist society we live in. I change my discipline regularly in order to keep challenging the hierarchy that exists from the companies that are selling us this commodified experience." "By using appropriated magazine imagery in these experimental collages, I aimed to provide a link between the temporality and impracticality of the modern commodity. Throughout this pandemic, I have realised how we often romanticise the relationship and ownership of our belongings as a way to determine stronger identities around other people. Challenging the notions of satisfaction with owning products, and addressing the fetishism of our belongings with the use of image and text, I have begun presenting the commodity as if it is something sensual and intimate."
