A massive congratulations to UCA BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduate Ben Prior for being shortlisted for Designer of the Year at The British Book Awards! Ben said "During my time at UCA I studied Graphic Design: Visual Communication. I think the tutors and visiting lecturers stuck out to me the most. I was able to engage well with every one of my tutors and it felt like they always had time for you. Which I think is something that is missed on a lot of other courses. I especially enjoyed book cover design workshops and lectures from Jamie Keenan and Jon Gray." "I’m so pleased and shocked to be shortlisted for ‘Designer of the Year’. I didn’t expect it at all and feel very lucky to be 1 of the 10 brilliant designers listed. I really look up to the work of those and other designers in the industry. David Pearson @typeasimage, one of the other nominees, was a guest lecturer while I was in my second year. Now to be shortlisted for Designer of the Year with David feels quite surreal." Ben's advice for students is to "always make the most of any opportunity you have to work on things additional to your course. Be part of the group that designs and helps set up the degree shows and extra events. Always keep as busy as possible and to book yourself into as many workshops and make as much use of all the equipment and facilities the uni has to offer."
